Clinical Observation of Pulmonary Resection

Abstract
Eight hundred and eighty-seven patients underwent the pulmonary resection during the period between Jan. 1960 and Jan., 1979.
The etiologies of disease were as followings; 36.7% had non-tuberculous pulmonary disease(bronchiectasis, 15.0%; carcinoma, 10.5%, lung abscess, 8.5%,. and others, 2.6%) and 63.3% had pulmonary tuberculosis.
The complications directly related to operation were 19.2 % (non-tuberculosis pulmonary disease, 13.5%; pulmonary tuberculosis, 22.7%). The major complications were wound infection(27.8 % ), intrathoracic hemorrhage( 17. 2 % ), space problems(16.0%), empyema(10.7%), and B.P.F.(7.7%).
The mortality following operation for non-tuberculous pulmonary disease was 3.4 %, for pulmonary tuberculosis was 2.5 % and the total mortality was 2.8 %. The cause of death were respiratory failure(56 %), ¢¥blood loss(24% ), transfusionmnctitn(4-/) nntli,nlrnnxxm(1RO%)
